The One Day Wonder Rod
Ian P. Rutter
As more and more people have taken up bamboo rod making,
new ideas have emerged and dramatically cut the time
required to create a rod. The idea of the "One Day Wonder
Rod" came from Stan Smartt, an accomplished maker
of cane rods. Smartt decided to invite a group to his home in
Wears Valley, Tennessee, to have a go at making a rod in
a single day. Nineteen people responded, and the rod that they
created helped generate funds to support the Great Smoky Mountains
National Park Fisheries Endowment Fund.
