Streamers and Bucktails of the World: Their History and Variations. A 20-part series profiling over 3000 flies. Part 1: The Long Fly's Siren Call Michael Martinek, Jr. Photographs by Paul Schmookler

New England is the cradle for both the casting and the trolling streamer. The list of streamer
flies seems never-ending, and just when an angler thinks that he has seen them all, another group
of unique patterns is soon discovered among the spider-webbed memorabilia of a another nearly-
forgotten New England tier.
Contemporary fly tier and streamer historian Michael Martinek writes the introduction to this
section and presents 42 of his highly effective patterns.
Over the course of this series of articles, over 3000 streamers and their histories will be profiled.
